Mark always honors our military troops and especially on Memorial Day.

Mark dedicates a portion of the show to folks that lost friends or relatives who were serving in the armed forces.

A Memorial Day tribute!

A few of our close friends from the MarkLevinFan community called in:

Gregg Garvey lost his son Sgt. Justin Garvey. In his memory, Gregg has started an organization to create, establish, and help maintain hometown memorials in honor of the brave men and women who have lost their lives defending the United States of America in the war against terrorism. His web site is: Lest they be forgotton

Tim Sumner lost his brother in-law, an FDNY Firefighter on 9/11. Tim also lost a good friend Sgt. Major Larry Strickland who worked in the Pentagon on 9/11. Tim operates a website 9/11 Families for America and is affiliated with the Take back the memorial website

Mark Dean calls in to memorialize his father and great uncle who served valiently. Mark keeps us laughing with his works of art which can be seen at www.markodino.com or right here at MarkLevinFan.

Chris Ryan calls in to give us an update on the condition of his son, Sgt. Eddie Ryan. Sgt. Ryan was seriously injured in Iraq. The Ryan family has a website that shares Eddie’s progress. Help Eddie Ryan

To the many others who called in, and to those who didn’t get through, we hold your loved ones in our hearts and prayers. God bless you.

ABC News wrong on alleged FBI Hastert probe

Wednesday, Mark read the following ABC breaking news article by Brian Ross that claimed House Speaker Dennis Hastert was under investigation by the FBI.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, is under investigation by the FBI, which is seeking to determine his role in an ongoing public corruption probe into members of Congress, ABC News has learned from high level official sources.

Federal officials say the information implicating Hastert was developed from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.

Part of the investigation involves a letter Hastert wrote three years ago, urging the Secretary of the Interior to block a casino on an Indian reservation that would have competed with other tribes.

The other tribes were represented by convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff who reportedly has provided details of his dealings with Hastert as part of his plea agreement with the government.

The letter was written shortly after a fund-raiser for Hastert at a restaurant owned by Abramoff. Abramoff and his clients contributed more than $26,000 at the time.

Click the speaker icon to hear to what Mark had to say on the radio!

Is it no surprise that Mark Levin was right and ABC News got it wrong? Here’s what Mark had to say on his blog this morning:

DOJ ABCs
By Mark R. Levin
ABC News is looking very stupid tonight. It is now “reporting” this:

Despite a flat denial from the Department of Justice, federal law enforcement sources tonight said ABC News accurately reported that Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert is “in the mix” in the FBI investigation of corruption in Congress.

Speaker Hastert said tonight the story was “absolutely untrue” and has demanded ABC News retract its story.

Law enforcement sources told ABC News that convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff has provided information to the FBI about Hastert and a number of other members of Congress that have broadened the scope of the investigation. Sources would not divulge details of the Abramoff’s information.

“You guys wrote the story very carefully but they are not reading it very carefully,” a senior official said.

More here.

I don’t know who this senior official is, but not only did I read the original story carefully, I broke it down into little parts, and it still didn’t make any sense. (See below.)

The phrase “in the mix” can refer to anyone Jack Abramoff ever lobbied. This story tells us absolutely nothing. And “the sources” do not appear to have direct knowledge about what they’re leaking. Moreover, the Justice Department would not release a statement flatly denying the existence of an investigation of Hastert without checking with internal primary sources. I know this as I used to be a chief of staff to an attorney general and I have no doubt the department checked this thoroughly before speaking on the record.

Fix The Root Of Illegal Immigration First.

Despite the amnesty program proposed by the president and endorsed by all democrats and most republicans. Despite the good work by Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Al) and Congressman Peter King (R-NY) exposing this farce, the roots of illegal immigrant problem has yet to be addressed. If this nation is to secure its borders and it’s sovereignty it will have remove the reasons people violate our laws by invading our country.

The ill informed and their spoon feeders in the media and the White House are quick to tell us that the felons are only doing the jobs Americans will not do. They blame the business for being greedy and at the same time show due sympathy for the “honest” businesses who are in dire straights when it come to available able bodied American workers. Isn’t it amazing to see someone who has the ability to powder a behind while stuffing cake in the other end?

The President’s Address

The President’s Address
By Mark R. Levin

I didn’t spend 35 years in the conservative movement for this. We’re supposed to jump up and down for 6,000 Guardsmen, which means about 2,000 functional Guardsmen at any given time (since they all don’t work 24/7)? By any factual analysis—costs to public education, the health-care system, entitlement programs, prison systems, etc.—unrestrained immigration is extremely detrimental to our country, as it would be for any country. And when you consider that the Senate bill now under consideration would result in some 100 million legal immigrants over the next 20 years—not including illegal aliens—the threat to this society is crystal clear. The U.S. cannot possible assimilate such numbers, and the financial strain on federal, state, and local budgets is incalculable.

Those who support a temporary-worker program (yesterday it was called a guest-worker program) expect us to believe that it’s temporary and the workers will be guests. But they have no proof that aliens won’t stay beyond the legal limit and no proof that any agency of our government is capable of registering and monitoring this. Indeed, the evidence is otherwise: Aliens will stay no matter what, and the federal bureaucracy is as bloated and incompetent as we conservatives have always insisted.

This is pure idiocy, and it has the potential of being far more damaging to this nation than any big-government power-grab perpetrated by any previous president and Congress. The social and economic impact would be vast. What is the public-policy imperative behind this? And if it’s such a wonderful idea, why does every other country in the world reject it, including Mexico?

Facts about the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act

The Heritage Foundation has some information you should know about the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act.

Senate Immigration Bill Would Allow 100 Million New Legal Immigrants over the Next Twenty Years

If enacted, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA, S.2611) would be the most dramatic change in immigration law in 80 years, allowing an estimated 103 million persons to legally immigrate to the U.S. over the next 20 years—fully one-third of the current population of the United States.

A Big Night

A Big Night
By Mark R. Levin

If the president tonight repeats the line that illegal aliens are doing jobs Americans won’t do (which is simply false and offensive), or that we can’t deport 12 million illegal aliens (as if that’s the only option to discourage illegal immigration), or waters down the purpose and usefulness of putting Guardsmen on the border (they won’t actually be patrolling the border), he will not be able to recover on this issue — which could mean his presidency won’t recover either.

Americans generally, and conservatives in particular, believe in the rule of law, national security, the integrity of our borders, and assimilation into an American culture. These ought not be controversial views. The American people reject interference by the Mexican government in the formulation of U.S. immigration policy. And they’re insulted by protests of illegal aliens and their supporters demanding citizenship and voting rights.

There’s a fundamental disconnect between the elites in politics, business, the media, and the labor movement and the sentiments of the general public. Tonight the president will announce with which side he stands.

Save the 9/11 Museum

Today, in the New York Post, Adam Brodsky wrote:

“Safeguarding 9/11 from intellectual pornographers may be even more vital, because the War on Terror isn’t over yet; indeed, it may last decades, even generations. As its symbolic start date, 9/11’s importance will be critical throughout. Clear memories - and honest history - will help motivate vigilance at home and aggressive action abroad.

“Conversely, any move that allows that memory to fade will help administer sleeping pills to Americans and undermine our defense. Which would be ironic: One lesson of the attack is that we’d let down our guard, closed our eyes to an emerging threat… There were other lessons: Our enemies strike in unpredictable ways; the best defense against terror is good offense; Islamists won’t hesitate to target innocent civilians; even nations with progressive records are subject to attack (perhaps more so because of those records). The positive lessons will be just as important, like this one: Average Americans, no matter their race, creed or politics, come together and rise heroically to great challenges.”

We came face to face with evil on 9/11. Perhaps we now can withdraw from the War on Terror and just kick the can down the road. Maybe we would escape paying the price for it in our lifetimes yet if we fail to preserve for future generations what happened that day, the story of what not confronting evil at its source cost us, we fail them for they will pay a far greater price in theirs.

Mayor Mike’s late, great idea

NYC Mayor Bloomberg has a new “plan” for Ground Zero

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey were are planning to stick the foundation raising money for an underground 9/11 memorial and museum at Ground Zero, the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, with the 300 million dollars it would cost to reinforce the slurry wall, lay the foundations, and provide necessary utilities. Sounds fair, right? Yet did you know that:

“…the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation asked the consulting firm Faithful & Gould to estimate how much it would cost to build a generic structure — no museum and no memorial — simply to close up and reinforce the 70-foot pit.

“Thomas R. Jaske, a vice president of the firm, said his estimators assumed the structure would largely be unoccupied and need only minimum utilities; that it would have three main floors and a rooftop at plaza level, with columns every 35 feet; that it would be made of steel and concrete; and that it would permit access by the public to the slurry wall and column remnants.

“Such a structure alone, he said, would cost about $370 million.”

New York Governor George Pataki and New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg have placed a 500 million dollar cap on the building of the memorial and museum. Now, unexpectedly, there is this: (more…)

The System Failed Us

The System Failed Us
By Mark R. Levin

So, several jurors latched onto the psycho-babble that defense lawyers use on behalf of their clients. Often it doesn’t work. Yet, perversely, it worked in Moussaoui’s case as applies to his sentencing.

Jurors were persuaded (that is, they found as mitigating factors) that Moussaoui should not be put to death because he supposedly had a bad childhood. He had no structured financial or emotional support. He was placed in an orphanage. And his father was abusive. So, while he’s guilty of participating in the carnage of 9/11, his mother and father made him do it. You would think that if this defense argument was so persuasive, he would have evaded guilt altogether—not just the death sentence at the penalty phase. To my eyes, this looks like jury nullification.

And then there’s the strange argument that this was a just outcome because Moussaoui will suffer more in prison than if he’d been put to death. The anti-death penalty crowd wraps itself in morality—accusing death-penalty supporters of being inhumane—and then claims that it’s better that Moussaui “suffer” the rest of his life?

And I love this one—if he’d been put to death, he’d become a martyr, as if denying the enemy this would-be martyr would have any influence at all on their jihad. It seems to me that in the Middle East, you can’t fling a dead cat without hitting a martyr. So now I suppose he’s a living martyr who will be subsidized for the rest of his life by the Great Satan, as they affectionately refer to us.

Count me among those who believe the system failed us. And whatever happened to those military tribunals, where unlawful enemy combatants like Moussaoui were to be tried?
