The Army handed over its base in Najaf on Tuesday, giving Iraqis full control of the city as a first step in transferring security across the country so multinational forces can begin to go home someday.
And in Afghanistan: Unfortunately we lost one of our guys in this operation.

Here are some of the sick stories that will be coming out of New Orleans in the days to come. Many of these deaths were not caused by the storm.
Arkansas National Guardsman Mikel Brooks stepped through the food service entrance of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Monday, flipped on the light at the end of his machine gun, and started pointing out bodies.
“Don’t step in that blood - it’s contaminated,” he said. “That one with his arm sticking up in the air, he’s an old man.”
Then he shined the light on the smaller human figure under the white sheet next to the elderly man.
“That’s a kid,” he said. “There’s another one in the freezer, a 7-year-old with her throat cut.”
He moved on, walking quickly through the darkness, pulling his camouflage shirt to his face to screen out the overwhelming odor.
“There’s an old woman,” he said, pointing to a wheelchair covered by a sheet. “I escorted her in myself. And that old man got bludgeoned to death,” he said of the body lying on the floor next to the wheelchair.

Monday, Mark spoke at length about the passing of Chief Justice William Rehnquist.
Mark cleaned Dershowitz’s clock! LOL!
Maybe this is why the aid was so slow getting to the people who needed it.
These stories need to be told. Don’t count on the MSM to do it.

Troops begin combat operations in New Orleans
Numerous soldiers also told Army Times that they have been shot at by armed civilians in New Orleans. Spokesmen for the Joint Task Force Headquarters at the Superdome were unaware of any servicemen being wounded in the streets, although one soldier is recovering from a gunshot wound sustained during a struggle with a civilian in the dome Wednesday night.
“I never thought that at a National Guardsman I would be shot at by other Americans,” said Spc. Philip Baccus of the 527th Engineer Battalion. “And I never thought I’d have to carry a rifle when on a hurricane relief mission. This is a disgrace.”
Spc. Cliff Ferguson of the 527th Engineer Battalion pointed out that he knows there are plenty of decent people in New Orleans, but he said it is hard to stay motivated considering the circumstances.
“This is making a lot of us think about not reenlisting.” Ferguson said. “You have to think about whether it is worth risking your neck for someone who will turn around and shoot at you. We didn’t come here to fight a war. We came here to help.” (more…)
Monday, Mark was on the show with Sean Hannity and spoke with him about the passing of Chief Justice William Rehnquist.
Late Saturday evening, as a result of the news of the passing of Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Mark spoke on the phone with Sean Hannity on a special issue of Hannity & Colmes on the Fox News Channel.
Before Mark came on, however, Alan Colmes first spoke with Liberal hack, Alan Dershowitz, who disgracefully attacked Justice Rehnquist. Here’s the audio of Alan Dershowitz.
Now, here’s Mark with his reply.
Chief Justice Rehnquist was a great man and an outstanding patriot. He will be sorely missed!
A big thanks to Johnny Dollar for sending me this audio!
Also, to read the transcript of Dershowitz’s attack on Rehnquist along with Mark’s response, go to Johnny Dollar’s Place!
The Dershowitz transcript can also be found on Opinion Journal, as well, but there’s no mention of Mark’s response.
These fine men and women are working through something that most of us will never experience. Think about how you would react if you were in their shoes. Their families and their homes were also affected by this storm.
They are suffering from feelings of demoralization. They are being relied upon by the people that they swore to protect, only to come to the realization that they too are relatively helpless.
The local and state government infrastructure that they depended on to carry out their duties was “missing in action.” Those in positions of leadership had not made the necessary preparations or taken the necessary actions to ensure that these front line first responders were given the proper resources to carry out their responsibilities. They were left hanging by the Mayor and Governor.
This is, in a very small way, somewhat similar to the situation in Viet Nam where our front line soldiers relied on the proper support to win the day. It never came for them.
After you read this news article, say a prayer for the first responders.

Law Officers, Overwhelmed, Are Quitting the Force
By JOSEPH B. TREASTER
NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 3 - Reeling from the chaos of this overwhelmed city, at least 200 New Orleans police officers have walked away from their jobs and two have committed suicide, police officials said on Saturday. (more…)
The Supreme Court of late has been hijacked by those imposing their will on the people instead of deciding the matters before them by interrupting the law. The recent decisions of ‘Eminent Domain, giving due process rights for foreign combatants, as well as the recent Supreme Court decisions upholding affirmative action and striking down sodomy laws brought a renewed focus to our nation’s top court. It is in my opinion that the Supreme Court has not drifted from the original intent of the founders; it has become a category five hurricane blowing in from the left.
With the passing of Chief Justice William Rehnquist on September 3rd, and the retirement of Sandra Day O’Connor, there now stand two vacancies on the nine member Supreme Court.
Judge John C. Roberts will have his hearings begin this Tuesday. He was nominated following the O’Connor retirement.
Who do you think President Bush will name to the Supreme Court Chief Justice role.

Who do you think President Bush will nominate to the Supreme Court to replace William Rehnquist;
Robert H. Bork: 78, is a conservative legal scholar and former judge who advocates the judicial philosophy of ‘Originalism’. Bork is a former Solicitor General and in 1987 he was was nominated for the position of Associate Justice on the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan however his nomination was rejected by the Senate in a 58-42 vote.
Janice Rogers Brown: 56, was confirmed this June to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. For nine years before that, she was a California Supreme Court justice.
Edith Brown Clement: 57, is a judge on the New Orleans-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. Clement was nominated by President George H.W. Bush to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in 1991 and was elevated to her current post by the current President Bush in 2001.
Sen. John Cornyn: 53, is the junior senator from Texas, elected in 2002
J. Michael Luttig: 51, has been a favorite in conservative legal circles for decades, going back to his clerkship for then-Judge Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 1982-83.
Theodore B. Olson: 64, is the former Solicitor General and now an attorney in private practice in Washington at the firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He argued Bush’s case before the Supreme Court that decided the outcome of the disputed 2000 presidential election.
Larry D. Thompson: 59, is a senior vice president and general counsel for PepsiCo. He was the deputy Attorney General–the No. 2 person at the Justice Department–for much of President Bush’s first term He was one of the highest-ranking African Americans in the Bush administration and if appointed to the court, would be the third African American justice. Thompson is a longtime acquaintance of Justice Thomas and was a member of the legal team that assisted Thomas during his confirmation hearings in 1991.
Emilio M. Garza: 57, is a judge for U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and has been on the short list for a Supreme Court nomination before. Garza, who will turn 58 in August, would make history as the first Hispanic ever nominated to the high court.
Alberto R. Gonzales: 49, as Attorney General he has less time on the bench than the other likely Supreme Court candidates but has one crucial advantage: the close friendship of President Bush.
J. Harvie Wilkinson: 61, was appointed to the 4th Circuit by President Reagan in 1984. Before his appointment he was the No. 2 official in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Office from 1982-1983

Something serious to think about in the days ahead. I left off the ‘Great One’ Mark Levin, I selfishly would miss his radio shows too much.
Best to all!

MAYOR CRITICIZED
The criticisms of Nagin came from above as well. Numerous officials urged him to evacuate the city, but he worried about the legality of ordering people out when New Orleans has few safe hurricane shelters. Also, National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield in Miami called Nagin at home Saturday night and told him: Get people out of New Orleans.
‘’I could never sleep if I felt like I didn’t do everything that I could to impress upon people the gravity of the situation,'’ Mayfield said. “New Orleans is never going to be the same.'’
When a grim Nagin issued the mandatory evacuation order Sunday, he said: “We are facing a storm that most of us have feared . . . God bless us.'’

Hundreds of busses that could have been used to evacuate tens of thousands of storm victims sit partially submerged, obviously not utilized for the “evacuation.” More busses: https://marklevinfan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=162

Before we can even count, let alone bury the dead, the politicians can’t get in front of news cameras fast enough to point the finger of blame at someone, anyone else! What a disgrace!
I just watched Elijah Cummings, Congressman from Maryland, give a speech saying that God wouldn’t be pleased with the response to this disaster that President Bush has given.
The Mayor of what used to be New Orleans is spouting off about how no one is coming to his aid.
It’s tin horn politicians like you Mr. Cummings and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin that allow things like this to happen! No not the storm, but the poor coordination of response to it and the resultant chaos that followed.

I believe that this writing is an interesting insight into the mind of a middle-eastern Muslim man.
He seems to believe that storm Katrina was a force of “torment and evil” from Allah. He makes comparisons between the “Soldiers of Allah” and “The Terrorist Katrina” and wonders if the devastating killer storms that “evilly rip [America’s] cities to shreds” have joined the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization?
It is common for people to seek explanations for such disaster by exploring their faith. I believe that it is the case here. But the writer somehow implies that an act of terrorism is the same as a natural disaster? He uses verses from the The Koran as to somehow justify the death and destruction caused. Within the text of this article, he leaves me wondering if he uses The Koran in the same way to justify terrorist acts.
“Katrina is a Wind of Torment and Evil from Allah Sent to This American Empire” By that statement, are we to imply that Allah is capable of tormentous and evil acts? He said it, not me. We keep hearing from CAIR (The Council of American-Islamic Relations) that Islam is a peaceful religion. I’d really like to believe that. I wonder what they would say about this?

Thursday, Mark spoke about the lawlessness in New Orleans. This disaster just keeps getting worse!
