lazneeks wrote:Hi - I recieved a signed copy of "Rescuing Sprite" from Premiere Collectibles the other day, however I am not sure I should read it just yet. Two years ago on December 16th, I held "Spot aka Quirrelly P" my elderly rescue dog in my arms at home (amongst all the cheery Christmas decorations...ugh!) as he was euthanised. Honestly I am afraid if I read the book now during the holidays, the slow to fade memories of that miserable day will come back in full force. Any reviews would offer me helpful insight. I know this post is kind of dumb, but what I mean is in the end, is the book as a whole positive and life affirming?

I think it would help you more to read it than not to. I found it to be very therapeutic!

I got two copies of Mark's book at the Huntington signing, one for a good friend of mine who volunteers at animal shelters, and one for myself. Then when I got home I found out that my son just lost his precious dog, Faith. My son lives upstate NY, so I sent him a sympathy card on the loss of a pet, along with a copy of the "Rainbow Bridge" prose, and my copy of "Rescuing Sprite" to help him get through this difficult time. I'll get another one for myself first chance I get.

But seriously Tom, there is a major difference between M-L-F and M-I-L-F. (and I detest the latter term being used about women myself)

I was so furious at my local Border's tonite...they did not even have the book out..it was hidden in the pet section. I asked why it was not out..that it is a best seller..they looked at me as if I were insane and said...????best seller??/ totally unaware. and more to the point did not believe me. said that corporate makes those decisions. well, corporate is going to hear from me..and I am printing out the NYT bes seller list and the one from Amazon....and taking it to their manager...makes me nuts....

Rescuing Sprite

Postby Society Dweller » Tue Jan 08, 2008 9:03 pm

My daughter gave me a Borders gift card for Christmas and I used it to buy the book, I actually started crying in Borders when I began reading the books introduction and had to stop and give it to my wife to hold on to until I got home. I didn't think I would get so emotional, but having heard Mark talk about the book and Sprites story I was highly emotional before I picked it up. It was such a wonderful story about life, love, compassion and the undying complete love dogs have for their masters and how much joy and happiness they bring to us and we bring to them. I loved so many parts in the book that made me laugh. The devil runs, their tails wagging 100 miles an hour, the way Sprite liked to lay at his feet, put his head on his leg, the breezes he so loved, and the walks, the treats, the food from the table and his so soft fur. What a wonderful dog and a wonderful family. All dogs do go to heaven and I am sure his beloved Spritey will be there waiting, in perfect health tail wagging 100 mph and ready for a walk in the breeze. God bless you Mark and your family and great dogs.
