Kathryn Jean Lopez wrote an NRO article this morning about the outrage among Republicans over the amnesty deal reached yesterday.
It’s never a good day for the White House when, at the start of his evening radio show, Mark Levin is provoked by a presidential press conference  one lauding a supposed legislative achievement  to complain on behalf of conservatives: “How about not treating us with animosity?â€ÂÂ

She’s right! It’s never good to be the target of a Mark Levin rant!

Talk shows are ‘EXPLODING” with outrage!!:

JFKDEMFAN, I have to give credit where credit is due. You have done more to characterize and argue against this bill than the entire US Senate. Good work!
THIS IS MY OFFICIAL ‘GOOD-BYE’ RANT ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION…….AND EVERYTHING & EVERYONE ABOUT IT THAT DISGUSTS ME:
I’m done. Period. DONE!
I’m DONE, President Bush, with making EXCUSES for you on this issue. I have HAD it!!
Mr. President, I have & always will be proud to say that I’ve stood behind you on virtually everything you’ve stood for (and in some cases, I’ve taken some heat for it. That’s okay—-I never regretted it).
But on ILLEGAL ALIENS?? NO MORE!!
I have DEFENDED you against angry conservatives who’ve called you “weak”, “pandering”, “incompetent”, and even a “globalist” because of your refusal to address this problem with the same dedication you’ve shown addressing terrorism. I’ve pointed out (correctly, I still maintain) that while you could do better, you certainly did not CREATE this problem, either. No, that was done by previous administrations. And unfairly, they have gotten a pass. Mostly at YOUR expense. That is unfortunate.
But you know WHAT, Mr. President?? Life isn’t always FAIR. ESPECIALLY when you are the Commander-in-Chief, and the leader of the free world.
Mr. President, you have had a chance—-a GREAT chance—-to do something that NO OTHER ADMINISTRATION BEFORE YOU had ever done. Something, quite frankly, that falls into the category of “No-Brainer”: PROTECT THE UNITED STATES BORDERS FROM OUR ENEMIES.
It pains me greatly, Mr. President to say these words: YOU’VE FAILED.
FAILED WITHOUT ANY GOOD REASON.
In the name of God, HOW can you STAND THERE next to a CREEP of a human being like TED KENNEDY, who, for all intents & purposes, would not only put a political KNIFE in your back at the drop of a hat, but should’ve been sitting in a PRISON CELL decades ago for nothing less than second-degree murder??? Stand there and tell us all what a GREAT “senate negotiator” he is??
I swallowed hard an accepted you joining forces with him on “No Child Left Behind”.
But THIS????? Virtual AMNESTY for MILLIONS????
I’ve bitten my tongue for a long time now (if for no other reason than the fact that I saw how the vile left was attempting to destroy you with NO regard whatsoever for their actions……but apparently, you care about that less than I do).
I’m DONE giving you the benefit of the doubt. You offend ME and EVERYBODY ELSE who’ve supported you by telling us that these LAW-BREAKERS—-who INVADE OUR COUNTRY, suck up MILLIONS upon MILLIONS in FREE health care, welfare benefits, and EVERY OTHER government entitlement under the sun—-need to be “treated with respect”.
“Treated with RESPECT”????
I and EVERYBODY ELSE HERE have done NOTHING except UNFAIRLY SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE FOR DECADES WITH OUR OWN HARD-EARNED TAX DOLLARS.
How DARE you, Mr. President!!!! How dare YOU, and EVERY OTHER DAMN POLITICIAN who have chosen to slap us in face with such DEMIGOGGERY!
I will CONTINUE to stand with you on this war, and will always respect your decency & compassion. But frankly, Mr. President, we the people don’t always NEED “compassion”. Sometimes we just need a little LEADERSHIP!
And on this VERY important issue, Mr. President (one which could ultimately affect the future of our whole CULTURE), you’ve given us absolutely NONE!
Okay, I’ve gotten President BUSH off my chest—-and I meant every damn WORD of it—-but there are also OTHERS who have been EQUALLY as guilty, yet somehow manage to escape blame.
And I am equally sick of THAT, too!!
SO HERE GOES:
I was listening to Rush this morning. I LOVE Rush. I also Listened to Sean today. I LOVE Sean. Mark, Rush & Sean serve as my political “sanity” in an otherwise political world gone completely mad.
But I’ve got a bone to pick with THEM, too. A BIG bone!
This morning, I heard Rush rant on & on about how much this immigration bill sucks (couldn’t agree more), and about how it could ultimately “doom” the Republican party (I completely understand THAT, too).
THEN Rush did it—-did that thing that drives me NUTS.
He injected the “R” word. The “R” word that has absolutely NO PLACE WHATSOEVER in this beef about illegal immigration & amnesty.
He summed up his scathing criticism of this bill as proof that “the Republican party has ABANDONED it’s REAGAN PRINCIPLES”.
ABANDONED IT’S “REAGAN PRINCIPLES”??????????
EXCUSE ME, Rush…….but do you REMEMBER 1986????? Do you REMEMBER the SIMPSON-MIZZOLI BILL????? Do you REMEMBER the travesty that STARTED this whole amnesty mess?????
“REAGAN PRINCIPLES”?????? My ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, Rush…….the “Reagan principles” with regard to AMNESTY-FOR-ILLEGALS is ALIVE & WELL & LIVING in THIS sham of a bill, and in THIS administration & congress. Sorry to break this to you, my brother, but Ted Kennedy was standing alonside REAGAN in 1986 as WELL!
Let’s not B.S. ourselves, people. In an attempt to protect Reagan’s legacy, there has been an ongoing attempt from many on our side of the political fence to IGNORE what he did (and DIDN’T do) to make illegal immigration much WORSE.
I was listening to Sean today, and he said, among other things, the following:
“Whatever happened to the rule of law??”
“It is SO FUNDAMENTALLY SIMPLE if they REALLY wanted to fix this problem…..and they could do it IMMEDIATELY.”
“We have wanted an answer to this problem for YEARS.”
Of course, I was waiting for his follow-up slogan of “What would REAGAN do”.
Want ME to tell you what Reagan DID do??? At a time when it would’ve been a LOT easier to FIX this problem if he’d had (to quote Sean’s words) followed the “rule of law” on something that is so “fundamentally simple” to fix?????
HE GAVE AMNESTY!
TO MILLIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HE DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO GUARD THE BORDER!
HE NEVER ENFORCED ANY OF THE SO-CALLED “NEW” EMPLOYMENT LAWS TO CRACK DOWN ON HIRING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!
No, President Reagan walked off into the sunset, and left what would become a MESS to future administrations & congresses.
Let me be absolutely CLEAR about something: I STILL consider President Reagan to be the BEST president of my lifetime.
But I am also SICK and TIRED of “Reagan conservatives” REWRITING HISTORY (either by SILENCE or EXCUSES) just because his last name was REAGAN!
I know, I know: “Oh my GOD, how can you SAY such a thing. Why, he’s RONALD REAGAN, after all!!”
Save the angry mail! People have GOT to accept the fact that TWO THINGS CAN BE EQUALLY TRUE: That Reagan was an otherwise great leader……..and that he SCREWED UP our immigration system even WORSE than it already was!
Do I blame him ONLY?? Of COURSE not. But I’m TIRED of many of his supporters REFUSING to tell the whole story about why we’re in the mess we are now.
And that INCLUDES Rush, Sean, and to a lesser degree, Mark.
It’s a little like the Emporer who had no clothes: Those who don’t want to acknowledge it, choose not to SEE it.
And THAT, as our good friend Sean would say, is “intellectually dishonest”.
I was listening to Dennis Miller today as well. He had Rich Lowrey on his show…..and like everybody else here, they both HATE this bill.
Miller did mention to Lowrey that it puzzles him how many who always jump on Bush about illegal immigration but also have this great REVERENCE of Reagan have such a selective memory, given the position he took. Lowrey just chuckled & acknowledged the contradiction. He ALSO said that, contrary to what many think, Reagan actually had a very “libertarian” view of immigration.
Last night, Glenn Beck did the same thing we’re doing: he screamed bloody murder about this bill. But he ALSO made a point to mention how Reagan’s lousy & unnecessary amnesty bill in 1986 did nothing except turn four million illegals into TWELVE million.
BULLS-EYE!!
Reagan was the ARCHITECT of this amnesty crap….and he will NO LONGER get a pass from me on this issue. Time to call a SPADE a SPADE: Like every other administration after him (and a few before), he was just part of the problem, NOT a solution. On immigration and borders, REAGAN is BUSH is CLINTON is CARTER. It’s ALL the same: HORSESH*T is DOGSH*T is COWSH*T is BULLSH*T.
SH*T is SH*T!!!
NO, I’m NOT done yet:
I’m ALSO sick of every damn pundit—on the left AND the right—who BITCHES about how everything SUCKS………but if they got in the White House, THEY WOULDN’T DO ANYTHING, EITHER!!!!!!!
Did everyone see all the “headlines” on the Drudge Report today?????
GINGRICH ON IMMIGRATION DEAL: ‘A SELLOUT OF EVERY CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLE’
REALLY, Newt??? Wasn’t your fat ass in the “speaker of the house” chair back in 1994???? You know, Newt—EIGHT YEARS AFTER THE FIRST AMNESTY BILL????????? Did YOU get anything done???????? Or are you now just jumping on the bandwagon & mouthing off because you’re thinking of running for president in ‘08 and you think it’s just what we all wanna hear?????
HOMELAND SECURITY SEC. CHERTOFF ON KENNEDY: ‘HE’S AWSOME’!
Oh, that’s just f*cking TERRIFIC, Mr. Chertoff!!!!!!!!!!! I feel better about our border security ALREADY, because YOU think that one of the most CORRUPT, STALINIST, LEFTIST, DISHONEST crackpots in the senate is a GREAT GUY for throwing down with your boss to let millions MORE illegals into America!! WHAT A COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!
MCCAIN: ‘IMPORTANT STEP IN MOVING FORWARD’
Forward WHERE, senator?? OFF A CLIFF?????
PELOSI: ‘I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERN’
Aaaw, what’s the matter, Stretch?? Bill too “TOUGH”??? Afraid not all the illegals will be HAPPY about virtual amnesty and your party might not get ALL their votes????????
TANCREDO: ‘PRSIDENT SO DESPERATE FOR LEGACY, HE’S WILLING TO SELL OUT AMERICAN PEOPLE’
Nice try, Tom…..but last I checked, you got into congress in 1998, and it wasn’t until 2004 that you woke up & realized we had an immigration problem for you to grasp onto. Don’t get me wrong, maybe you ARE serious about this…..but until I have proof you can get fully behind the WAR EFFORT, I’m suspect!
ROMNEY: ‘STRONGLY OPPOSES’
DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OBAMA AGAINST ‘IN CURRENT FORM’
What “current form” is THAT, Barrak??????? That they have to pay a fine over eight years for sneaking in here that amounts to $50.00 a month???? Get out of my FACE, you communist!!
That’s IT. I’m DONE with this issue. DONE WITH IT!!
Done with all the platitudes about how “conservatism” will CHANGE it. IT WON’T!!!
Time to wake up, people. For WHATEVER reason, this is the ONE SINGLE ISSUE that not change.
Let me say it one more time. It will NOT CHANGE! Not NOW, Not EVER. And whoever gets elected in ‘08 WON’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
So I GIVE UP. I will CONTINUE to vote for THREE reasons: 1.) Which party controls the military; 2.) Who makes decisions on my taxes; 3.) Who nominates judges.
THAT’S IT. And OBVIOUSLY, it’s STILL going to be Republicans. REGARDLESS of what the scum at “Weiner Nation” scream.
Beyond that—and specifically on the issue of illegal immigration—I QUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dead on right about Reagan and 1986. The only thing I can say is that I cannot imagine that he would allow history to repeat itself. He made his mistake and would own up to it.
If anyone wishes to emulate a Republican regarding immigration I suggest T Roosevelt.
Amen to that, task.
ScottT, I’m with you, as far as GWB in particular-this is the proverbial last straw. Yeah, we knew he wanted this (and more) all along, for some unfathomable reason, but he has definitely displayed a poor sense of priorities here. Cripes, of all the times to hand the enemy a victory, to do it when they have him backed into a bloody corner?!
I’m not sure I’d be all that sorry to see an impeachment, although I still don’t believe they have adequate grounds to do it, much less the votes to convict…and I’m not sure Cheney (who would undoubtedly be the next target) would be a great improvement.
What a friggin mess…let’s just hope that by some miracle we have 41 in the Senate to put the brakes on this outrage.
I’m right with ya, ScottT. I don’t have the energy to rant about it, anymore. I am sick and tired of worrying about President George W. Bush’s presidency than HE does! HE is the President, not I! I feel like I have been personally betrayed by a man to whom I have rendered an unwavering loyalty for nearly twenty years. I suddenly feel much older and sadder and tired. W is only human, I know. But how does he justify THIS? Even to himself?! I am sick of trying to figure him out. And I am through trying.
DrWho, if you’d consider “impeaching” President Bush for this bill…..then you’d have to give equal cosideration to whether or not “impeachment” would’ve been warranted for President Reagan in 1986. Frankly, I wouldn’t TOUCH that topic for a whole bunch of reasons…….but they’re EQUALLY culpable for the mess we have.
You can’t “impeach” the last 40 years of our governent & executive branches. As far as I’m concerned, what’s good for one is good for ALL.
Actually, I’m not advocating impeachment at all; I said that I’m not sure I’d be all that sorry to see it happen. And I didn’t mean to suggest that it’s warranted because of the illegals issue (or any OTHER grounds the dhimmis talk about).
If I were a member of the House, I would NOT vote in favor of impeachment.
I hope I’ve clarified my earlier comment.
DrWho, I was just going by the fact that you said you didn’t “believe” there were adequate grounds for impeachment. In fact, there ARE no such grounds. I understand what you’re saying, though.
Dub, I feel your pain!
John Ashcroft is a Christian. Previously I’ve described Bush as a pragmatic altruist. The difference between the two is that Ashcroft was first an AG and second was a Christian. The opposite holds true for Bush as President. He took an oath to uphold our laws, as did all of Congress I might add. That is the job description. More than that he has an obligation to his base. You might remember that after the 2004 election he informed Congress that he had political capital and he was going to use it. We gave him that capital only because we believed that he believed in us. Now he stands at a crossroads where his signature may very well destroy the party of the good and hard working people that trusted him, so that our future voices will forever be silenced.
Everything that we have strived to protect… freedom and liberty, gun rights, free speech, the right to life, lower taxes, State’s rights, medical choices, property ownership rights are all instantly at stake. It is as though you woke up one morning and found yourself occupied by a foreign power. As history as so frequently shown us… we cannot lose this Country in battle but we can lose it from within.
I would expect more from Judas Iscariot.
That last line is a bit much, but I generally agree. Let us hope (and try to give power to the possibility) that enough members of Congress on the GOP side want to keep their jobs that this won’t fly. 41 senators can filibuster. Nazi Pukelousy wants 70 GOP votes (imagine THAT!) before it’ll allow it brought to the floor.
Keep the heat turned up-that’s the ticket here, as long as the dhimmis run that hellhole! It’ll be bad enough if NOTHING is done, but infinitely worse if we let em push this abomination through. If they do manage to, we can forget a Republican majority ever again, much less a conservative one. Why the HELL don’t they GET that?!?
At this moment I am in NYC. I Have conversations with my wife’s relatives about these issues. They get their talking points from the local Starbucks. They live in a microcosm. They have no idea that the rest of the Country does not think the way New Yorkers do. Likewise the Senate works in the Beltway that is dominated by the MSM. They go to parties where their wives socialize among each other. They are a Club and they think of themselves as a Brotherhood. They are elected for six year, not two. In effect they become insiders much like McCain. Objectivism is incrementally lost. They become something different than their roots would suggest.
Ever notice how Supreme Court Justices change their ideology. Where did they move to? Who do their wives socialize with? Scalia gets into a motor home, takes his family and leaves Washington for the summer. Knowingly or unknowingly he vaccinates himself from that climate.
I would assume that most of you are like me. This has screwed up the way I sleep, the way I eat, the way I work and the way I recreate.
4 year old celebrating “SCAMNESTY” “flips” Tammy Bruce “the finger” @ a Home Depot on Thursday. Well now isn’t he CUTE?? RAH-RAH!!KENNEDY & ilk. This is the new generation of “Americans” you are inviting as guests to our Country?? GRRRRRR!! (I would dip his little finger in lysol if he were mine!!)
I miss my “Cowboy”. BUU-HUU-HUU!!

Not much I can do in my congressional district here in NY, we have John “Gus Jr.” Hall as our congressman and you all know of the excrement we sent to the Senate. I do hope that any of you with reasonable American representation have been in contact with them on a regular basis, my calls to Chuck, Hill, and Gus Jr. have and probably will fall on deaf ears.
