WABC will not be the same without Curtis. Those of you in NYC who didn’t like the change in the morning programming will be happy to know that Curtis will be doing morning drive on “The Apple” 970 WNYM.

Best of luck to you Curtis.

  2. Good to know, ff4b,

I suspect WABC will be regretting this reeeeeeeally soon. Good Luck to you, Curtis!

Twice, I have met Curtis Sliwa and spent several minutes speaking with him one on one. The first time was at the 2007 Freedom Concert in NJ. What you see is what you get with him; he is a genuinely descent human being, concerned for his fellow man and civil society, highly intelligent, and personable. From where I was standing before and after our conversation, I saw him away from the crowd, stage, and microphone and while I won’t tell you the specifics of what I saw, I’ll tell you he appeared to a great father to his son as well. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

New York City could never repay the contributions of Curtis Sliwa and his Guardian Angels. America for that matter owes him a debt of gratitude. I have gotten to chat with and spend some time with the crimson crime fighter and those moments are memorable. (Nice gaval on the podium Curtis…where ever did it come from…hmmmm?) I wote of several radio events about Curtis in my book; ‘Everything Worth Knowing I Heard on Talk Radio’. WABC will be missing a fine American voice of conservatism and liberty. Best of luck always to you my friend.

I briefly met Silwa on three occasions, two Levin book signings and at the recent 911 rally held in Foley Square, NYC. Over the years I developed admiration and real respect for this man who is responsible for helping make the world a better and safer place by creating the Guardian Angel Organization, which is now rightly and famously international.

He grew up in Canarsie, Brooklyn and I grew up next to Bensonhurst, and when that is the case you can’t help but have run-ins with the Dyker Heights and Bath Beach Golden Guidos and the Bensonhurst, gumba wise guys who always seem to know someone who will take care of the business that they love to threaten you with. If you work and stay in the neighborhoods long enough somehow you end up dealing with acquaintances from Carroll Street, South Brooklyn and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Forget about Staten Island; I stayed away because of my own relatives.

Several weeks ago at the Foley Square rally, where we all experienced a hard, cold and windy rain, several speakers gave some wonderful speeches. Curtis, by far and away, gave the best speech; a speech that General George Patton would have been proud of. He hit the ball out of the park and for the price of a ticket (over 3 hrs of standing in bad weather) I would have done it over again for a repeat performance.

Curtis is a permanent part of NYC and will be around for a very long time and I, for one, enjoy listening to 970 and am now glad to have to change the dial a little less often. To me Curtis is part of a home and the environment that helped shape me; I still hang around, for better or worse, because it is part of my own identity.

Silwa said something regarding the NYC, KSM trial that I think was significant and still resonates loudly. Twice Gotti was placed on trial for his (Curtis’s) attempted murder and on both occasions a jury, in a Federal Court, found him not guilty. No matter how small a possibility (it could be on a technicality) this is a chance America cannot afford to take.

I just reset my house radio to 970AM. HC, you are so right. WABC 770 made a mistake. They should have bounced that no talent backbencher from his 10am – 12pm time slot.

I have never met Curtis. But I have met two New Yorkers, the first I have ever met – Task & Anna. Such fine, patriotic Americans – what a pleasure to meet! Guys, it was so much fun traipsing along the streets of NY on Oct 1st, even though I was severely jetlagged, and almost fell asleep standing up! Aaaah, memories!

Now why did I get off the topic. Good wishes to Curtis in his “next chapter”. And yes, I have heard Curtis on WABC, on his own show, as well as when he stood in for Mark Levin. A very lively host on air!

i never met curtis of course i have listen to him on radio and see him on tv many times and i can tell you america needs a million more like him . we all know of course
that some hate the good that the good do, and the good hate the evil that evil do that’s huiman nature so we can do nothing about that . keep up the good work my man for you have done many honorable things for people thru out the world and i admire you for that.

  9. ff4b says:

Yes Anna. Curtis would have been a much better fit than the “Back Bencher” I agree.

Curtis starts his new show at 5 AM on Monday 01/11/10. For those who live outside of the radio signal range of AM 970 “The Apple” don’t fret. They have streaming audio! http://www.am970theapple.com/

I look forward to the day that Curtis kicks the old wrinkled arse of Imawuss in the Morning in the #1 radio market in the USA!

    Go get ‘em Sliwa!
