Europeans liked to intentionally characterize Reagan as a cowboy who would not fit into the accepted détente model. In fact he was a détente buster and made no apologies for characterizing evil nations for what they were just as he called out the democrats as the party of big-government socialists immersed in international moral relativism which really amounted to reticence in the face of outlandish human rights violations. Yes, there were exceptions such as FDR and Truman but those days have since been smothered by the epidemic of political correctness, which strives only to correct those who wish to correct the intolerable.

Without a moral order based upon individual liberty and freedom thugs will continually strive to control and enslave people. Ultimately the most ambitious find a place in government and if they are sufficiently ruthless, smart and crazy they rise to the top and in their wake they leave a huge swath of human misery. Whether a UN member nation, a street gang or the mob, at the top of any of these chains will be some sociopath that has organized a society through spies, fear, recruitments and intimidation.

America, the genesis and incubator of leaders has taken a giant step backwards with her last election. Before we can even reconnoiter to deal with economic misstep after economic misstep we are plunged into multiple international face-offs and, in my opinion, we came up short each time. As more and more Americans are arming themselves for personal defense America is spending less on her own defense in the very face of increased international offences and multiple provocations. Korea just kidnapped two totally innocent journalists and loudly proclaims that they will be imprisoned in a confinement facility that makes Abu Ghraib seem like Club Med. They are igniting nuclear weapons and brandishing and firing missiles independent of any world condemnation.

Iran, run by clerics and mullahs and most of all by a Iran’s version of Saddam Hussein, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, overreached with the perpetrated fraud of the last election and gave the world and America a surprisingly clear opportunity to do what America does well… characterize the marked distinction between a nation based upon the rule of law which idolizes constitutional individual freedoms and condemns lawlessness brandished by human rights depriving governments. The silence has been deafening. We stood down and solidarity never sounded weaker, more faint and unconcerned.

We now know that redistribution, government corporate takeovers, massive social spending and fascism are compassionate and good and that those that critique are nihilistic and greedy. We also know that the world is composed of different cultures and that criticism is arrogant and judgmental despite consequences that fly in the face of America’s founding values. We are now told to question who we are and what we have historically stood for and to evaluate ourselves on the basis of international standards. In short we are no longer a nation of leaders, led by an even greater leader, but followers of one who sees leadership as a chance to forever change our leadership role and in so doing extinguish the light of hope for so many that see America as their dream and the dream of their children. America after all these years finally needs to understand that she is no different than everywhere else and to think and say otherwise is only likely to make those who most dislike her to hate her even more. And to the extent that Barack Obama believes this he has been monumentally successful because he has now given those that always disliked us explanations as to why they are correct.

God bless America because now more than ever she needs his help and so does the rest of the world that always knew and understood, despite what America’s present leadership believes, that America always has been different from everywhere else, that there is no risk too great, no sacrifice too large and no price too high to pay to achieve what she has always been for so many of us and for the ones who sacrificed and died to make and keep her so.
