You are right in that O’Reilly is not a lib. Neither is Bush or McCain but sometimes they might as well be because of their support for the wrong side of an issue in a way that only a liberal would. His love for ratings can be embarrassing when he pushes too hard for high profile lib interviews and he can never be as hard as he needs to be because they will not come back. He wants that reputation of fairness and balance. Limbaugh, Levin and Hannnity are balanced because the rest of the media is liberal and unbalanced. Conservatism fundamentally espouses liberty and freedom and not group rights; it’s foundational core philosophy is all about individual rights. When O’Reilly says that if people want socialism, they can vote for it, he doesn’t get the plain and very simple concept that you cannot vote away the deed to your neighbor’s property nor can you commit a person’s labor to involuntary servitude because of a majority vote. That is where you say that he doesn’t have enough education. He is very educated but just doesn’t get it; many libs are educated; some are brainwashed and others are true hard-core believers. Most conservatives are not elitists and I am amazed at people, from every variety of life, who have minimal formal education that can articulate conservatism. I understood conservatism when I was in High School.

O’Reilly is a pragmatic populist and sometimes he gets it very right and sometimes he gets it very wrong.

Interesting position about a jury trial in NY and I can’t deny that he would need attorneys that just specialize in vetting jurors. When you are that high profile, and not exactly loved, justice can be difficult to find. He didn’t settle this so much because he was guilty but because exoneration may not be possible. It could go either way. Look at Scooter Libby and the OJ and ask why justice was AWOL. Oprah managed in her jury trial, with the beef industry, but that was not about her reputation, and she is loved; in O’Reilly’s case he makes his living based upon his reputation. Had he lost, his career would be over; if he were a true lib his career would be enhanced.

We are all frustrated about this election including the other side and I, and you, and others, would like to keep them that way.

As an econ major in undergrad, I feel like a lot of our positions are essentially common-sense. We need to do a better job of spreading our message to the masses.

I definitely think it’s absurd that so many people are supporting this bailout nonsense on the basis that credit might become difficult to obtain. HELLO?! — The majority of the country is in DEBT up to their eyeballs! We don’t need more credit!

The reason I like O’Reilly is because he crusades for moral causes, and he’s often right. You guys are quite correct that he’s wrong about the bailout, but I still contend that the “sexual harrasment” lawsuit was b.s.

Cable TV is ripe for a real conservative commentator and we need more stations. Many people listen to talk radio and view Fox because this is the only place that they can find rational reporting. If we want to win elections without all this work we need more TV outlets and a few more newspapers and we have to get control of the minds of our youth. In other words we have to take a page from “Rules for Radicals” and adopt the same techniques, obviously not the ideas but the techniques. Conservatism sells itself but many people do not hunt down Fox News, they just turn on the TV, so the day that you will accidentally hit a conservative bias broadcast, as opposed to a liberal bias, is the day that you stop worrying about election outcomes.
