   This cartoon perfectly portrays what happened. In fact if Congress were to do its’ job and investigate the cause and effect of IndyMac’s failure, its’ effect on depositors investments and the US collective economic costs the toon would substitute for thousands of pages of conventional legal arguments. This bank was not even on the most endangered list until Schmucky took it to the head of the pack and then dispatched it. A lot of people will suffer because of what happened. Some will never get all their money back. Ultimately Congress would have to come to the conclusion that it, itself, is part of the whole mortgage and loan problem. Nevertheless, if this were Trent Lott, or any other republican senator, he would become pivotal in a full-blown investigation, would probably have to resign and certainly would never have a prayer of a chance to be re-elected.

   Many more people are now going to take their money out of perfectly good banks because of what this man instigated. It’s not over yet.
