Former Guantanamo detainee attacked American embassy in Turkey on July 9 (Update: report unconfirmed)

Mark Levin interviewed Dick Morris tonight about his latest book, Fleeced, and they discussed Barack Obama’s plan to provide free healthcare to illegal immigrants, to increase capital gains taxes, and implement by Executive privilege the Fairness Doctrine. While important, what Morris said about Obama and terrorism is what most caught my ear.

I am picking up a copy of his book tomorrow. In addition, I will follow up on Morris’ assertion that a former Guantanamo detainee was among those who attacked our embassy in Turkey on July 9, 2008, and murdered three Turkish police officers. While Turkish and US State Department officials have indicated al Qaeda may have been involved, the three dead and one captured attackers all were said to be Turkish, none of their names have been released, and this is the first we are hearing another former Gitmo jihadist has returned to the battlefield. If that turns out to be correct, I will not be surprised.

Update::

Last night, when Dick Morris asserted “the guy who did it ["bombed" our embassy] is a former Guantanamo detainee,” he neither named him nor provided a source. My exhaustive online search and check with sources failed to confirm Mr. Morris’ assertion. None of the three, named dead terrorists who conducted the attack match the list of those who have been detained at Guantanamo. The wounded suspect (picked up the next day in Southern Turkey) was only identified as “Durson P.” and the nine other suspects under investigation were not named. I look forward to Mr. Morris providing additional information.

In addition, I picked up ‘Fleeced’ this morning. (It went to print prior to July 9, 2008.) His assertions within it about the number of former detainees that have returned to the battlefield are both well documented and from open sources that were previously reported.

Fleeced is a good read. Yet I disagree with his conclusion that the Leftist lawyers and NGOs (e.g. Human Rights First, the Center for Constitutional Rights, etc) would have been satisfied had only the administration given the detainees POW status at the beginning. In effect, President Bush did exactly that when he treated them as unlawful combatants, a status outlined within the Geneva Conventions. Nothing short of full due process and disclosing all classified information — including methods and operations — would have satisfied those organizations.

    A key element in the Democrat’s strategy to install a total, all-out tyrannical government is to quickly grant citizenship to the 20-30 million illegals in this country as well as grant them the ability to bring their relatives here swelling the number to 100 million within 20 years! As Mark has said many times, we CANNOT sustain hoards and hoards of illegals aliens in this country who are poor, uneducated, low-skilled, can’t speak English, and have NO motivation whatsoever to drop their own culture and customs and adopt OUR culture, language, and national pride and ASSIMILATE into our society! Marxist elitists like Obama welcome the hoards of poor uneducated people willing to vote themselves free handouts via the democrat party. These hoards will simply swamp the votes of thoughtful, educated, and informed voters and will set the stage for the transformation of the United States into a Banana Republic. Apart from the War On Islamic Terrorists, nothing is more important to the survival of the United States than to stop the La Raza-conspired invasion and subsequent takeover of our country. Make no mistake about it, Obama and the Democrats are out to DESTROY Conservatives and just like the Bolsheviks in 1917, they will squelch all dissent (with Fairness Doctrine Executive orders), create an elitist ruling class, and a huge, needy underclass that will ensure their power.

    It is a crying shame that we have a Republican candidate that is so STUPID that he simply “doesn’t get it”. He doesn’t seem to understand that this country is in a struggle to preserve its liberty, its freedom, its free market economy, its standard of living, and its culture. He’s too busy being a wimpy, politically correct, linguine-spined candidate, unwilling to say anything inflammatory about his Marxist opponent. McCain is also actively taking part in a bidding war with Obama on who will give the most rights, services, and fast-track citizenship to illegal aliens. In that regard, McCain is an “enabler” for La Raza and their plan to take over the United States with shear numbers and is just as culpable as Obama for the resulting destruction that will ensue. Apart from Mark, no one is sounding the alarm bells of the dangers we face.

    You hit upon the one issue (illegal immigration) that I have have long maintained is not repairable. Once this reaches critical mass and dispersion occurs into certain key states you may never win another election again. The demographics have always kept the liberal hordes at bay. Not any more. This is so very fundamental and so very deadly that quite frankly I don’t see any good solutions now that McCain is the republican candidate.

    What we have released from Gitmo is bad enough because these people will always look to kill innocents… and they will succeed. Even worse is the recent Israeli prisoner exchange where stark, cold, mass murderers have been released back into the World. Anyone have any doubts as to what effect that will have? How can you explain this to the families of the new victims? Who are the greater monsters, those that commit these crimes or those that deliberately let them go with the full and certain knowledge of the end result?

    I was shocked that The Great One had Dick Morris on. I never thought I would see the day, but I guess this book has some good read in it. What’s next? Pat Buchanan? If that happens I will have the big one. Oh, and Sean I love ya like a brother, but my God, the spotlight doesnt have to shine on you all the time.

    No one was more surprised and shocked than Dick Morris himself. Sean must have talked ML into it. Morris preaches good theories, loves to amuse and flatter himself while explaining those theories, but in the final analysis is often wrong. Currently he feels that McCain needs to go after moderates while ignoring his base. It seems pretty obvious, to me, that, when dealing with a far left candidate, you expose his leftist agenda, choose a conservative VP (Morris feels otherwise), articulate a conservative message, tell why America will prosper with conservative ideas and you capture the middle as well as your base

    Yes, the mindset of human rights organizations is not quite as sanctimonious as they love to portray themselves. There are dozens of corrupt regimes in Africa and more in Asia along with Castro and Chavez in our own hemisphere, yet they choose the good old USA to contest human rights violations regarding a subset of humanity that, if they had their way, would destroy all of us infidels. Military tribunals provide due process while preserving the lives and security of American citizens. They are Constitutional. Non-uniformed combatants, unassociated with any nation are not entitled to any Geneva Convention protection. They are terrorists representing a cult. Even if NGO’s had been satisfied with POW status, as Morris suggested and as outlined in the Geneva Convention, it would have only been for a short period before they asked for more. Their endgame is what Sgt Tim understands. We compromise while the left moves forward incrementally, all the while acquiring new ground till they reach their presubscribed goals.

    It seems that Morris so enjoyed the opportunity that he wished to become a familiar presence on the show. From my perspective he often does have something important to say but many have heard it before from the other shows he frequents. I actually enjoy listening to him almost as much as he enjoys listening to himself and his book is worth reading because it is well researched on the important issues that he points out. In fact McCain should have already read it and should use it as part of his campaign strategy.

    Great post Tim! Excellent research.

    I have to agree with my brother Pete about TGO having this guy on his show. DM is a dirtbag and cannot be trusted. The book may be a great read but his actions over the years, and lack of good judgement would preclude this person from reading it.

    I only have one more thing to say… Dick Morris before Morris Dick’s you!

    (Sorry MLF, I couldn’t help myself!)
