But will it always have the same name? This morning in Financial Times, the Homeland Security Department’s top intelligence official became the latest prominent leader to say that the phrase should be dropped. “It is interpreted in the Muslim world as a war on Islam and we don’t need this,†Under Secretary Charles E. Allen said, adding that it spreads “animus†far beyond the enemy.
And dumber:
The global war on terror has become a thinly veiled excuse to wage a global war on Islam with increased arrests of Muslims, calls for regime change in Muslim countries and racial profiling, according to a leader with a national Islamic organization. “The tactic of terrorismâ€â€and yes it is a tactic, not an ideologyâ€â€has been deployed by a multitude of groups of different religions, ethnicities and ideologies and yet the Islamic faith, unlike any other, is erroneously and incessantly associated with terrorism,†said Dr. Parvez Ahmed, a national board member of the Council on American Islamic Relations. “The association of a faith practiced by 1.2 billion people worldwide to terrorism creates the perception that the GWOT is a war against Islam.â€Â

I guess what we did to Serbia via NATO (really the US) to protect Muslims does not count? If this Country ever fought any war, against any people, with full capacity our casualties would be minimal and theirs would be monumental. We’re fighting a war against terrible terrorists that have no problem killing and cooking the children of their own religion. Imagine what they would do to you? We fight like politicians and not like soldiers. We fight a war hamstrung, not by the enemy, but by a Congress that wants to feel good about themselves and that wants to talk badly about the opposition political party. We are fighting a war that was initiated by the savage carnage of 3,000 innocent civilians and we worry about the etiquette of vocabulary? This enemy always had enough animus to rape, murder and torture you and your children. It is not our language that prevents this; it is the threat of might and the fear of retaliation. Let them never forget that we do what we do because we were hurt and that we could do far, far more in an instant if we were like their civilization (or lack of) and that the only reason they survive is because we cherish the innocent among them even at the expense of our own peril. As Golda Meir stated: “It is not bad enough that you kill our children but that you sometimes force us to kill yoursâ€Â
