Mark explained last night that American oil companies are not why we are paying so much for fuel:

You know, it always amazes me how it seems we have all kinds of crises when democrats are in charge. Even when we’ve had republican presidents, democrats were still doing their damage. Did the republicans ever really have a ruling majority – one where democrats couldn’t sabotage them? And the democrats talk about “change”. It seems to my simplistic way of looking at politics that the obvious change is to get rid of the democrats and let republicans have a ruling majority once and for all without democrat interference. And we just keep getting democrats making a muck of things and being the ones who will fix the problems they create. It’s a never-ending nightmare.

All the Republicans needed to do when they controlled the Senate was to change their own freaking filibuster rule! They were too afraid. Therefore, they allowed the Democrats to dictate policy for them.

When the republicans controlled Congress they acted like troops occupying a foreign country who wanted to be liked. They lacked presence and made excuses for proposed legislation as though they never really were entrusted to do the job in the first place. You got the impression that they left the furniture and belongs in place because they thought of themselves as renters or short-term guests.

The Republicans failed the leadership test by every measure. Rather than lead by the conservative principles they espoused, they forsook those values in the name of populism or, as Bush calls it, compassionate conservatism. In the name of compassion they expanded government and spent like drunken sailors in a Tijuana whorehouse. The Republican party needs a thorough shake-up from the top to the bottom. We need truly conservative leaders to stand up and stop this leftward creep within our party. It’s too late in 2008, but we had better get our crap together by 2012.

What are we supposed to do in the interim until we find an alternative to oil and coal? Continue with the ethanol debacle? We presently have oil, coal and nuclear and we have not yet developed a decent practical substitute. Eventually we will and perhaps the world will then be a better place but liberals will, nevertheless, still be just as discontent. While we struggle to find a fuel substitute, and expect to be successful, liberals do not struggle to find a substitute for brains because, in their heart of hearts, they know that is truly unachievable.

I don’t know, guys, but I see democrats gaining more ground each day and cementing their grip on us little by little. We’ve seen it happening since FDR days and even with republican presidents, they still pull their same stunts. Maybe we should remind people how it was under the Carter administration and the lines at the gas stations waiting for fuel. What a nightmare! The democrats would like nothing better than to relive those days so they can use this current president as the whipping boy in future. Get Carter off the hook. I still say, let’s buck conventional wisdom and get the Congress back because with predicted Supreme Court retirements looming and their ghastly presidential candidates along with their agendas, we will be a long time trying to repair the horrible damage of 4 years of them totally in charge. We know all too well that the democrats will rally behind whichever of their nightmare candidates remains standing. Every dirty trick will be played, fat slob, Michael Moore is already preparing a propaganda blitz for the key states like Ohio and Florida. Even a bad, weak republican is far better than any democrat under these circumstances.
