Mark Levin discussed with David Limbaugh, his good friend and author, Gov. Mitt Romney’s plan to speak Thursday about religion:
Voters factoring in the candidates’ spiritual beliefs are exercising their liberties, not encroaching on the candidates’. For Romney to suggest otherwise is the tactical equivalent of Hillary Clinton or Mike Huckabee saying that criticizing their views is tantamount to personally attacking them. Nonsense.
They also discussed Gov. Mike Huckabee saying we should close down Guantanamo Bay:
HotAir.com has some interesting details about the latter subject.

We need to hear more of David Limbaugh. He is a great speaker and very entertaining. Sharp guy…
We don’t have the perfect candidate. Romney’s reference to his faith should reflect that he is Christian but that is at most only tangential to his devotion to the rule of law and the Constitution of the United States. That is the job that he is applying for. As such he should indicate where in his background the Constitution guided and reflected how he governed and where it did not. In the latter instance admit he was wrong and promise the American people that he will do it right. After all that is all any conservative candidate can do. As such his faith may give him strength and personal resoluteness but will not determine how he fulfills the Constitution contract that he has with the American people.
His flip-flopping on abortion appears to be a big issue with his potential supporters. He has changed 180 degrees and he is not ambiguous when stating his earlier pro-choice stance was dead wrong. After all with the advent of ultrasound, 3-D ultrasound, endoscopic intrauterine filming, stem cells, DNA technology etc. the concept of life has taken on a much more defined and clearer meaning. Technology allows you to see more and know more hence you should be thinking about what you see and understand. Consequently we look, we see, we think, we understand, we evolve and we change our minds. Late term abortion can no longer be looked upon as unwanted, unclaimed disposable property such as luggage. A 6-8 month old human being is thought of as chattel with the maternal mental health deciding whether he/she lives or dies. His answer, during the last debate, to the Jesus Christ question supporting the death penalty for abortion should have been redirected by restating that he doubted that Jesus or any spiritual leader would favor the killing of an unborn human and how comfortable would the questioner feel about explaining that decision should there be a day of judgment. Most of all he has to emphasize that he cannot change the law and that only the conservative judges that he appoints can change the law and for the present he has to uphold the rule of law even though he disagrees with it.
Here is a name for those Gitmo franchises: Waterboarding No Waiting. Hmmm? We need a motto. How about: ‘Wet by 9, comes clean by 5 after.’
Task
With all due respect I have to take exception to Romney’s now pro-life stance being characterized as flip-flopping. Have you heard him explain as to why he has changed his stance on abortion? Because if you did I dont think you would deem it flip-flopping.
LIP: I think there is a bit of misunderstanding. Here is my post from Nov 21 on this site.
“I have also heard enough about Republican flip-flops. The Republican candidates, independent of their previous historical records, have been mostly consistent in their current positions. Their representations may be new and different but they are essentially steadfast and static for this voting cycle. On the other hand the NY Senator flip-flops on issues each and every week, during the same speech and even within the same sentence.”
That being said read David Limbaugh’s article. He is the one uncomfortable with Romney’s position on abortion. So is the MSM. I am not. This post was meant to explain how Romney could change his mind and be 100% dedicated to a pro-life stance.
I see where you could think that maybe I thought otherwise from the first line of the second paragraph. That characterized his position when he was Governor as opposed to his position as a Presidential candidate. If that is your conclusion then you are mistaken and I sorry if I stated my description poorly. I believe Romney honestly changed his mind and is sincere. I also changed my mind thirty years ago and never went back.
Most of all the post was meant not to criticize Romney but to explain and support his stance better than I think it is generally understood.
I’m relieved it’s not just me having doubts about Mr. Romney – beyond the creepiness of mormonism. I don’t judge people on their religion, but it’s a sad reality that it will affect a lot of people. Regardless, Mr. Romney is just too slick and milquetoast to excite me as a politician. At least the others have some grit and bite to them, but he’s a little too robotic for me. Again, I will support any of the candidates against Hil or Osama Obama, but Mr. Romney will get eaten alive by the democrat goons.
You are very right about public perception and I even see it on this site. A long time ago I came to understand that we are born independent of choosing who we are. We have no choice as to our species, our race, our nationality, our gender, our religion, our country etc. Ultimately, if we are human, we learn to use our intelligence an make decisions accordingly based upon logic and rationale. It is to bad that Romney is a Mormon because he had no choice in the religion that he was born into. I, like everyone here, will vote for anyone other than the Democratic nominee. Once again, what other choice do we have?
Task
Thanks for taking the time to explain.
I feel sorry for Mitt.
Yeah, I know: How on earth can one feel “sorry” for a multi-multi-millionaire many times over?
I feel sorry for him because he’s yet another Republican candidate who’ll be victimized by religious bigotry from the turbo-Christian right.
My blood is absolutely boiling over this “cancer” in the party. Rather than utilizing their faith to inspire, they wield it like a baseball bat or a night stick. They threaten to pave the way for a Hillary or Obama election if they don’t get their way. They resort to thuggery, choosing to intimidate people of other faiths (such as Mormons) or otherwise good, responsible voters who recognize the big picture & what is best for the country, but who may happen to see one issue or another in a slightly different perspective.
In short, they threaten political (and national security) suicide if you don’t follow them lockstep.
I have HAD it with these goons. HAD IT. Dobson and the rest of his minions can kiss my backside and jump in a river.
In a general election, they won’t vote for Rudy. Said they won’t vote for Thompson (he doesn’t go to church enough). Won’t even vote for McCain.
And TRUST me, if they won’t vote for any of them…..then they won’t vote for a Mormon, either.
No, they’ll stand by, with their smug, distorted, pretentious, insanely judgemental & sickeningly disasterous obsessions thay call “principles”, and allow a Marxist like Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to become the president of the United States during a time of war against Islamic “jihad” on the free world.
And they’ll do it with a sh*t eating smile on their face. Because, after all, they have a “point” to make.
These lunatics are flat-out DANGEROUS!
Romney should highlight his strengths. All this talk about his Mormonism is just talk. Romney should point to his family – 5 sons, 5 daughters-in-law, and grand children, and still married to the same wife, as testament to his faith. This is the quintessential AMERICAN FAMILY, that evangelicals WORSHIP as a central part of their faith! Romney’s exemplary family values is MORE than many evangelicals, or catholics can boast!
The strengths Romney should be bragging about are his executive, and business eredentials – he has started, and grown a business. He understands all the intracies, complexties, and nuances of macroeconomics and microeconomics – what makes the economy hum. He has HANDS ON experience on business and economics!
Does Huckebee, McCain, RuPaul, Giulliani, Clinton, Edwards, Obama have these critical skills that the Commander In Chief MUST have? No way, Jose.
It’s is NOT enough for a Commander in Chief to be Christian. Infact, religion does not qualify a candidate for Presidency. Voters should look at the FRUITS of a person’s life. In terms of family values -look at Romney’s family! The Commander In Chief needs to be business savvy, so that he can strategise on economic policies that propel growth, through business (we know WELFARE ain’t gonna provide GROWTH for any economy!).
I am afraid the Democrat candidates fail miserably in this arena – BUSINESS ACUMEN. They are all socialist idealists!
Huckabee’s forte is his Baptist Priesthood. But he has skeletons in his closet. He is a LIBERAL when it comes to ECONOMICS. His opponents should be attacking that achilles heel.
Why shouldn’t Romney be slick, and polished? Consider his world, and who he had to deal with – the corporate world! It’s a question of style. Don’t condemn Romney for his style. Being “folksy” is not better. Just different. Christians should know better about being JUDGEMENTAL!
As for Fred Thompson – why is he so “quiet”. I heard an explanation – he does not hang onto his own words like many others do, with their every quip – self importance. In his own way, he is modest, and unassuming.
I am not rooting for anyone (yet) and even if I did, it wouldn’t matter since I am not voting. But, puleez, evangelicals, LAY OFF the man. Take a good look at his family, and what he stands for when it comes to FAMILY VALUES, the starting point of any society. Can any evangelical better that example set by the Romneys? Or to put it bluntly, the Romneys’ Mormonism puts to shame those professing Evangelical Christianity, or Catholicism! Look at a man by the fruits of his life. Look at Mitt Romney’s family!
ScottT:I feel sorry for him because he’s yet another Republican candidate who’ll be victimized by religious bigotry from the turbo-Christian right.
You hit the nail on the head. Evangelicals should spend less time judging others, and more time judging themselves.[33"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.] Matthew Chapter 12
Evangelicals spend alot of time in the Scriptures (or do they, really?). They should know better the context of the above – if you have to judge a man’s Christianity, judge him by the fruits of his life; don’t judge him by his faith! The fruit of a KEY aspect of Romney’s life is there for all to see. The hardest job of any man or woman, is parenting, and bringing up a family. Romney’s quintessential American family values should put many Evangelicals and Catholics to shame.
Evangelicals should spend less time judging other faiths. They should spend more time setting the example of Christ, just like Mr. Romney has done, in the manner he has, with his home, and family in order.
Am I being anti-evangelical? Hardly. I was brought up with it. I know how evangelicals think, and see the world, to a tee. At the end of the day, for all of us, whatever strand of Christianity we subscribe to, we are judged by Him, on the fruits of our own lives, not by how much time we spend judging others! There is a plethora of Scriptures in that vein.
Don’t liberals believe that religion should not play a role in hiring anyone? In fact gender, race and religion should not play a role in almost any decision hiring process. That is in fact federal law in regards to hiring.
So let’s take a look at the new liberal way of looking at things based upon this current election cycle. Hillary is playing the gender card in a sublime way and Oprah is playing the race card in an outright way so if Romney were a Democrat he could play the faith card as a member of a Christian minority.
Task, don’t count on that. Liberals use the GENDER & RACE card as a conduit to advance the course of Liberalism. Women’s groups are not really for women as such, but use it to enforce Liberal agendas. They are not interested in Conservative women.
Did Southern Baptist Minister, Jimmy Carter, do any good? Look at the fruits of his (Mitt Romney)faith, not the badge of faith worn on the jackets some wear!
What a speech by Mitt Romney! Nothing beats deep personal conviction.
There is no question that Thompson and Romney are keeping the Constitution close to their vests. Thompson was Constitutionally inclined for a long time because he is from a red State and he has the background and history. Romney and Giuliani are both recent converts and I believe, of the two, Romney is more serious. I would prefer a recent convert to one who is less conservative or who I am suspicious will change in the wrong direction. For some people who were born to Democrat parents and then discover Conservatism it is like being born again. Anyway Rudy may still be the best bet to take on Clinton and that ultimately is what this is about.
If we are worried about Supreme Court Justices giving rights to terrorists, that are not constitutionally provided for, I have a worse case scenario. With a Democratic legislature aided by a Democratic President they will make laws and statutes that give legal standing to terrorists, just the way they do for environmentalists which has paralyzed our access to domestic energy. Consequently the necessity to have conservative judges appointed and legislative nonsense vetoed requires that we win the next election at all costs. Otherwise it will be a race for who screws this Country faster and more… the libs or the Supreme Court.
Now these Ron Paul clowns say the Polls are rigged and they have proof on tape.

TIKRIT MARINE, RuPaul supporters are so heavily into spamming, that I was hesitant to allow your comment to be posted until I watched the video, first. Then, after watching it, I still wasn’t sure if you were honest in pointing out how stupid these RuPaul supporters are to create such an lame video. Or, if you were actually one of the RuPaulies yourself simply spamming my site and were unaware of how stupid the video really was. In the end, I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and allow your comment to be posted, even though it had nothing to do with the topic of this post.
On second thought, after doing some searching, I discovered TIKRIT MARINE has made similar hit & run posts elsewhere. He is nothing but a sleazy RuPaul spammer and has been Disemvoweled!
