Mark Levin exposed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s proposal to shortchange funding for our troops:

Pelosi announced yesterday that House Democrats would bring a vote, possibly as early as today, to insert a host of mission-hampering conditions into an appropriations bill needed to sustain the American effort. Her bill would designate $50 billion over the next four months for combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan — provided that President Bush immediately begin to draw down forces in Iraq, with all major combat operations to end by December 2008. When Pelosi & Co. tried a similar stunt in May, the administration argued — rightly and persuasively — that Congress needed to give Gen. David Petraeus’ troop surge time to work. Now that all signs indicate it is working, the Democrats’ cut-and-run stubbornness seems all the more out of touch.

Yes. We are winning in Iraq; al Qaeda is being routed. As Mark asked, why aren’t we celebrating? Look who Pelosi’s “hero” is, none other than Code Pinker John himself:

Rep. John Murtha, chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said the vote was delayed because leadership was not satisfied it would pass. The proposal — which also includes a provision that would effectively ban waterboarding and other aggressive interrogation techniques and restrict troop deployments — might be tweaked to address member concerns, he said. Pelosi told reporters on Friday that she was confident the measure would pass. But one guarantee, Murtha said, is that Bush will have to accept some timetable on troop withdrawals if he wants the money.

Our troops have served magnificently and sacrificed so much. So, just when victory is finally within reach a good many lib Democrats want to turn Iraq into Vietnam. They are trying to under-fund the effort there because winning an election next year is all important to them; to hell with all the blood and treasure spent and the Iraqi people.
