The democrats have been dragged into a fight they can not win. The American people know conservatives love the military and liberals hate them. This goes back to the liberal assaults on the military during Vietnam and so on.
Due to the media controversy Rush will attract a new audience. Rush has the opportunity to present this new audience with his message. The message of supporting the troops, their mission and the liberty they are defending and democrats are eroding.
