P.S. Power to the People
I think we may need to “go Truman” on Magog before too long. They can not be allowed to possess nukes or their proxy wars will take on a whole new meaning. I hope that we can incite a revolution in Iran to negate this possibility though. Also, Turkey better back off and back off soon or we’ll have to reopen a chapter from World War 2 and “remind them” why they got their asses kicked. I understand that one of the best selling titles there is still ‘Mein Kompf’. Some people never learn till they’re walking around in dazed amazement and regret for pissing off the USA.
From my perspective the Nation is suffering from a flock mentality, a sort of modified Stockholm syndrome. You see the same thing culture wise when people over zealously tattoo or pierce themselves. In is the intrinsic nature of human beings. Notice how so many Scandinavians are socialists or how many Germans became Nazis or how much of Hollywood appears absolutely crazy. This is an infectious group mentality. Fortunately it runs counter to an earlier portion of the brain that is intuitive to survival. Sometimes death and spilled blood is the antidote and that is unfortunate because it really should not have to be. As in so much of life Mother Nature or God just did not get it quite right and what you see, as strange as it seems, is the attempt to fix it.
It is pretty scary and sad when her own District criticizes Nancy Pelosi for being too conservative.
In regards to the publics right to know (lose libs reporting military secrets and methods) vs. the absence of that right (ala Libby and Plame) the hypocrisy is as glaring as it is possibly to get. But then again, if Plame were really under cover, Novack’s expose via Armitage would have been a good thing. That translates into one less leftist mole (Plame) no longer revealing those secrets for the MSM.
Yeah, task, I see what you mean. The way that I look at it is from the perspective of Kohlberg’s theory of human moral development. He postulates six stages. The first stage is when a person believes that whatever he wants to do is right. Usually, a person is quickly dissuaded by that idea by the instantaneous negative results (pain, punishment, etc.). The second stage is characterized by the prevailing idea that “whatever he can GET AWAY WITH is right”. But once again, a person is usually caught and punished, and then the next stage is reached. This third stage is dominated by the prevailing thought that “Whatever is condoned by the people immediately around me is right”. And the sad truth of the matter is that this level is where many, if not most, persons in the world remain for the vast bulk of their lives. This is a dangerous level to have the masses of people to have their moral development, and it is dangerous because the very same people who are at this level will accede to the tenents of whomever is in authority over them at any particular place or time. A person who is at this level will, when placed in the center of a Christian congregation, try to think and to behave as a
Christian. But this same person, put in the middle of a Nazi rally, will try to think and to behave as a Nazi!!
The next level of moral development is the “law and order” mentality, which recognizes the rule of laws that are in effect over all the members of a nation (or a state or a city- the operative idea is that the laws have a jurisdiction that is larger than any one single denomination or political party). This is the mentality of a good police officer who impartially writes the speeding tickets to the Nazi or to the Pentecostal Christian regardless of their affiliations. And if one of these aggrieved persons appeal to the cop for leniency based on some special mitigating circumstance, the cop will refer them to someone on the fifth level: he will say, “Tell it to the judge!” A good judge (on the fifth level) will be able to make fair exceptions to the prescribed fines and penalties based upon legal precedents and authentic mitigating factors that might redound to the benefit of the person accused of a crime. And sometimes- and it is a rather rare thing to have happen- this judge will actually rise to the sixth level of moral development and SET a new precedent- but this new precedent must be in accordance with (both internally consistent with AND externally coherent with!) the norms and values of a strong universal ethic of virtue. If the judge’s precedent does not fulfill these criteria, then the judge is guilty of relapsing back to the very first levels of moral development and just doing what he wants because he can get away with it because that is what the people in his immediate environment condone!!
And today, in the absence of a strong President who can and will set a steady and consistent example by leading a Conservative movement from the very top of our nation’s government, the masses are not regarding the President as the arbiter of what “we the people” are to support and to strive for. Instead, the masses of the people are falling victim to the talking heads on the mainstream media by regarding THEM as the role models as to what “we the people” are to think and are to support. The masses of the people want and NEED a LEADER. And if they do not get one, they will fall prey to the demagogues of the Drive-By Media!! And that is what I think is happening today!!

Dub, Your analogy comes to the same conclusion and it does so more eloquently; I like it. Many years ago while devising several equations to understand an engineering issue I ended up proving an intermediate equation that a friend recognized was also commonly used to compound interest; in effect I then realized something that was relevant in a completely unrelated field quite by accident. Over a hundred year ago the British looked at a viral disease in cats that caused all the white blood cells to die and they appropriately named it feline infectious panleukopenia; at the same time Americans looked at a viral disease in cats that caused the intestinal epithelium to die and they appropriately named it feline infectious gastroenteritis. It wasn’t long before they compared notes and discovered they were describing different aspects of the very same disease that is now popularly called feline distemper. From that point the similarities and not the differences were emphasized. I looked at this from a biological perspective and you looked at it from a psychological vantage point. We both described the same thing. That suffices for group, flock or mob reasoning as level three (3) illustrates.
Neither description aptly describes why individuals like us (and the committed hard left) don’t go with the flow and are on the periphery of the curve. I say we think and they often just feel. I say we see logic and reason in the Constitution and they often see obstruction. Why our respective understandings are different is a little harder to comprehend. Quite possibly they are just stupid, stubborn and/or beyond learning. I have frequently stated that in many fields hard work will suffice to allow people to get to the top yet in some pursuits that simply will not do. You either have the ability to understand the mathematics behind complex astrophysics or you don’t. More probably it is related to them deliberately not maturing beyond level two (2) and thus viewing the Constitution as the thing getting in their way; they therefore attempt to get around it by bypassing logic, reason, morals, ethics, principles and values; in effect they are characterless. They undermine the development of mankind. Now does this not describe the difference between good and evil?
You are very correct in your description of GW. He is a good man but he lacks the leadership qualities and communication skills necessary to advance conservatism. He is at the top of the food chain and no matter how ruthless the MSM is the President owns and controls the pulpit. This is an oasis that we should be able to return to again and again for refreshment and sustenance. From here we can go forward strengthened and encouraged to deal with the hardships and problems that the world is certain to present us with. Conservatism is a way of life so it is only appropriate that our leader represents and displays the finest examples of it.

Your “biological” approach heartened me, for it reminded me that human beings are “hardwired” in their brains in such a way that they will struggle to survive with a will that over-rules the politically-brainwashed cerebral cortex. For example, when Hitler ordered his “scorched-earth” policy in his final days in the the bunker, even the Nazified Germans balked. Having allowed themselves to be led to the brink of their demise, the German people refused to commit suicide. It is good to be reminded that Nature is on our side!!
