AuH20! Barry Goldwater was a genuine patriot who wanted what was best for America before what was best for his own political career. For example, Goldwater once stated that, for a modern President of the United States, that a four-year college degree was a minimum requirement. His political advisors, mindful of Goldwater’s single year (or so) of college experience cringed, and started to say that Goldwater had an “inferiority complex”. But he did NOT! Goldwater had an “inferiority SIMPLEX”- and he, as a genuine patriot, was averse to the thought of the Presidency being held by anyone who was not of the very highest caliber. I wish that he had won! If Goldwater had been running against a Lyndon Baines Johnson who was not an incumbent (an incumbent who was put into office after the assassination of the charismatic JFK, no less!), I believe that Goldwater would have won. But “if” is for children, I know…

I have never heard Barry Goldwater’s speech. It makes great sense to me, and the logical choice for man, who is always on that journey of personal choice, and freedom. But many might ask why did Goldwater lose in a landslide. Perhaps, at that time, most were paralysed by the grip of “Government is The Savior” mentality and dared not venture beyond that. Wasn’t the world flat at one time? But as Mark Levin said, Goldwater laid the groundwork, and sowed the seeds of hope, and soon, Conservatism bore fruit through that timely channel of hope for America, Ronald Reagan!
Yes, I heard that caller who told Mark, Americans need MORE Government because, to this caller, Government is the Savior and God” of mankind. How absurd. Mortality is IMPERFECTION. These Libs are chasing a pipe dream, perfection, and Nirvana, in mortal man. Libs might want to make an exodus to that newly discovered planet, to start all over again, and attain bliss. But they are still beset by their own imperfections – the HEART of a man! To me, it’s an illogical answer. Assuming we all want personal choice and live freely, why do we want BIG BROTHER Government to decide for each of us how high we can aspire to in life.
Conservatism is what makes America SPECIAL and UNIQUE in civilisation. Not Socialism and Liberalism. That, is what, will destroy the soul of America.
If Liberalism and Socialism is that great white hope, why is it that those who live in Socialist and Communist countries CHOOSE to leave (remember the Berlin wall built to keep people in, not out!).
My Conservative American friends, do not ever let that cancer of Liberalism extinguish the light of that shining city upon the hill! Fight the good faith.

Good points. Let me have a crack at explain this mentality.
It goes without saying that a strong defense is absolutely essential for the survival of a people. You have no rights without life and that has to be the number one purpose of any Government. Barry Golwater understood this. Conservatives are never confused about this. Conservatives rely on law and order with equal justice for all because we understand that without this there can only be chaos and anarchy.
Mark had a caller that disputed Goldwater and Conservatism based on equality. In order for that caller to have his way can you imagine how many freedoms have to be thrown away? The concept of denying God given freedoms through the power of Government is exactly the antithesis of what this Country was founded upon. It is also the antithesis of what made us the world leader that ultimately gave many other nations the freedom and liberty from tyranny and oppression that they now enjoy.
It is impossible to get two ideologies as divergent as Conservatism and Socialism to come to terms. Socialism comes from the same moral perspective as slavery. Generosity is not a product of government; it is a product of individual volition. There is no such thing as coercive altruism. Government cannot sanction confiscation and retain moral relevancy.
Remember the Pharaoh’s dream. 7 slim, 7 fat, 7 slim. The slim ate the fat, became fat themselves and then became slim again because there were no more fat producers to produce what they needed to eat. The Romans were amazed that people in the provinces lived better than Roman senators. That was because they were so heavily taxed.
England is a disaster compared to the power they used to be. They suffer from severe economic anemia secondary to their confiscatory tax policy (i.e. socialism). Just look at their recent performance with Iran. When Ireland lowered personal and corporate tax rates it became prosperous. You cannot tax your way to prosperity. Even JFK articulated that. On one street in Boca Raton I recently heard a European remark that you could feed much of Sub Sahara Africa from the restaurants found there. That is entrepreneurism that is decidedly and efficiently American capitalism. Capitalism cannot coexist with socialism. Africa does not need food. It needs liberty, freedom and capitalism. It will then find a way to feed itself.
Socialism is a tribal mentality. It has always existed in the Teutonic world. You are fine in the tribe as long as you are not individualistic. The Jewish population was an easy target by the National Socialists in Germany because they could be profiled as wealthy and non-Teutonic. There were no safeguards protecting individual God given rights. What happened could never occur under our American Constitution. Many who vote for the left in this Country are grandchildren of the Ellis Island immigrants. In fact I have spoken to Holocaust survivors who believed that voting for democrats is the right and moral thing to do. They came from Europe and still believe in the possibility of a maternal benevolent government. Before collectivism there were monarchies and they still consider themselves subjects rather than citizens. They left their Countries of origin because they knew that something was wrong. They didn’t quite know what was wrong and they never really came to understand why America was different from their homelands. They assumed it was the Government when in reality it was the liberty and freedom provided by a Government designed from the ground up to protect that liberty and freedom; in many respects it was a lack of Government that made it work.
The introduction of so many undocumented immigrants as potential future voters excites liberals because they know that a voting population, that does not understand the Constitution and the freedoms that it safeguards, is unfavorable for the future of a Constitutionally based Government. Liberals have created dependency communities where single mothers will vote for a “ caring compassionate government†that substitutes for a providing husband. Far left liberals despise religion and wish to create an all-powerful benevolent state as a substitute; many never realize that a concentration of power will eventually become nefarious and malevolent. The State has become their religion. When two wolves and a sheep vote on what they will have for diner you don’t need a menu. When you borrow from Peter to pay Paul you can always count upon Paul’s support. Because liberals never recognize God given rights those rights become subject to the plurality of a vote; as such you can lose those rights. The Ellis Island decedents never realized that their votes actually create the type of Government that caused them to leave Europe and come to America in the first place.
America was the first Country in the world to get it right. We are about the individual and not the Government. We are about less Government. We, as Conservatives, are about property and the right to privately own and use it. Socialists disregard this very basic concept. Conservatives treasure this. Catherine the Great understood this, The Massachusetts Bill of Rights reflects this, and our Constitution articulates and guarantees this. In human history this is the first time a Government was to be our slave and not our master. Socialism is based upon the mis-application of the Judeo Christian concept of compassion and the construction of a large central and controlling Government designed to dispense their politically correct version of it at the expense of free choice.
Government’s primary function is to safeguard our individual God given rights from domestic and foreign threats and only doing collectively what is insurmountable for individuals to do privately. That is where it must stop. In this country if you want to help someone I will not stop you. You have the freedom to do that. In fact you and any other interested parties can form any number of businesses or 501C corporations and if they get it wrong tear them down and do it over. In the Socialist’s mind that is the job of Government. That is where they get it wrong big time.
They wonder why we hate them. I hate them not just for the loss of my liberty but also for the loss of the liberty of so many others that I love and care about and for the destruction of a Country the likes of which the world has never before seen and may never be seen again should they get their way.
BTW Harry Reid is a treasonous traitor. How can the head of the Senate publicly declare, to the enemy, that the war is lost when at that very moment our troops are in the field in harms way? That statement has had to contribute to the loss of American lives. There is no alternative way to view this.

Not just that statement but many statements made my the leading Democrats in Congress… think about it… how long they have been making such statements that demoralize our military, mislead citizens, and isolate the president? How much affect do you think that has had on the war and everything else to do with this country over time?
The Russians, the Chinese and the Vietnamese could not believe that we pulled out of Viet Nam. We won every major battle until it was re-written by the MSM. The anti-war protestors from that era are the same retreads that now sit in Congress. My dislike for John Kerry stems from his anti-war mongering on the Dick Cavett show seen in the early seventies. They are all like him. This war can only be lost at home. We spend 15% of our budget, which is about 4% of GDP, on the military and these people would love to add most, if not all, of that to the 56% we currently spend on entitlements.
I used one clear and glaring example to typify what is the very loud, brash and treasonous language that so characterizes the left, not only in this Country, but in the World.

TASK, I commend you for your lucid exposition of that social disease, Liberalism. Any Liberals reading it would have been livid because they cannot look at themselves in the mirror, and admit the logic and raison detre of Conservatism trounces Liberalism! That is why Liberals are ashamed to own up to being Liberals!
Liberalism’s freedom is “one voice”, the voice of Liberalism. To them, freedom only exists when everyone is under the control of Liberalism. Socialism never gave anyone freedom! But like its ill-comceived brotherhood, Communism, it had always enslaved man! The only people who have freedom (in the sense of “playing God” with the destiny of subordinates) are the bureaucrats, the Socialist Government. Be afraid, when you hear, “I am from the Government; I am here to help you”, as Ronald Reagan once said. As you put it – Generosity is not a product of government; it is a product of individual volition.
“You cannot tax your way to prosperity!” This is the bedrock of Liberalism because it allows government to control individual destiny! Individuals refer to the hoi polloi. The irony of it all is that the “elite” in a Liberal-Socialist society, are the ones exempt from their own policies to equilibrate their perceived inequities of a (capitalist) society! Do as I say, not as I do! Note the “watermelons” of Liberalism – “green on the outside, red on the outside” – in global warming. If these global warming protagonists have any personal CONVICTION of what they preach, global warming would have made a life-changing difference in their personal lives. Instead they defend their extravagant lifestyles (which they have no intention of changing) with “carbon credits”. I dare say, those of us who do not grandstand “environmetalism” like Liberals do, actually respect the environment more by the manner we live, in private. Conservatives prefer to walk the walk; Liberals choose to “talk the talk” because they want to dictate how everyone should live their lives – the way they say so, not they way they live so!

Europe is moribund, a cesspool of Socialism’s enslavement. When you take away individual freedom, like Liberalism and Socialism do, you sap the spirit of man, and eventually destroy the soul of society. Europe is like a black hole! It’s tragic as America gave Europe a new lease of life, at great expense, the lives of at least half a million brave American servicemen, after the victory during WW2. “They left their Countries of origin because they knew that something was wrong. The Liberals (always think SOCIALISTS when this term is used) always argue against corruption of big corporation because wealth is concentrated in the hub of capitalism. Yet they choose the path of concentration of power in government! Don’t be fooled. There is no Socialist Utopia. The corruption has shifted to big government. So how does one combat this cancer of corruption? Liberals choose to cede personal freedom to big government. Conservatives choose capitalism, knowing full well, it isn’t foolproof against corruption, because at least, they can still decide their own destiny. This is the lesser of the two evils. The State can never be God because Government is the face of an imperfect man! That banishes the delusion of socialist utopia. Socialism can never change the heart of a man. Some one once said to another – “Look at that man; Communism can put new clothes on that man”. The other person replied – “Look, Jesus Christ can put a new heart in that man!”. Get the drift, Socialists, Communists, Liberals?

My country, Australia, will, sadly, be irretrievably drawn into that vortex of death, too. America, LAST BEST HOPE.
