CAIR: Islamists Fooling the Establishment
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), headquartered in Washington, is perhaps the best-known and most controversial Muslim organization in North America. CAIR presents itself as an advocate for Muslims’ civil rights and the spokesman for American Muslims. “We are similar to a Muslim NAACP,” says its communications director, Ibrahim Hooper.[1] Its official mission‗to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding”[2]â€â€Âsuggests nothing problematic.
Starting with a single office in 1994, CAIR now claims thirty-one affiliates, including a branch in Canada, with more steadily being added. In addition to its grand national headquarters in Washington, it has impressive offices in other cities; the New York office, for example, is housed in the 19-story Interchurch Center located on Manhattan’s Riverside Drive.
But there is another side to CAIR that has alarmed many people in positions to know. The Department of Homeland Security refuses to deal with it. Senator Charles Schumer (Democrat, New York) describes it as an organization “which we know has ties to terrorism.”[3] Senator Dick Durbin (Democrat, Illinois) observes that CAIR is “unusual in its extreme rhetoric and its associations with groups that are suspect.”[4] Steven Pomerantz, the FBI’s former chief of counterterrorism, notes that “CAIR, its leaders, and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups.”[5] The family of John P. O’Neill, Sr., the former FBI counterterrorism chief who perished at the World Trade Center, named CAIR in a lawsuit as having “been part of the criminal conspiracy of radical Islamic terrorism”[6] responsible for the September 11 atrocities. Counterterrorism expert Steven Emerson calls it “a radical fundamentalist front group for Hamas.”[7]

In my opinion, the obvious truth is that the war on terror will never end until moderate Muslims confront their own radicals. They are the best ones to directly address the underlying religious and ideological ideas fueling the radical Islamists.
But organizations like CAIR have substantially failed to do this. They have largely provided political cover for Islamic terrorists. If CAIR members truly care about the United States of America then they will provide clear and consistent condemnations of terrorism and Islamic radicals and begin a self-policing program by exposing dangerous Imams, mosques, and madrassas.
It seems interesting to note that one of the functions of CAIR is to suppress moderate Muslims. How can one expect Muslims to speak against the violent in their midst if a network of retribution is permitted to flourish. Why should moderates act on our behalf if we will not defend them from such groups? Get real, would you put your life in jeopardy for those who wine and dine your enemies?
Anyway it is more “good will†from our “friends†the Saudis in the unfinished business column.
It is truly puzzling why our government and our law enforcement agencies would give such an obviously dangerous and incidious organization such as CAIR any credibility or legitimacy whatsoever.
I have great respect for those courageous, moderate Muslims who potentially place themselves and their families at personal risk when they publicly condemn CAIR’s policies and reject the idea of CAIR representing them as Muslims.
Handyman is right. We should definitely be giving these brave moderate Muslims as much public support as we possibly can.

Any Muslim who deviates in the slightest degree from Islamo-Fascist doctrine is considered by them to be an apostate. And apostasy is considered by the Islamo-Fascists to be a crime punishable by death. And CAIR is a thinly disguised Gestapo which operates with impunity here and around the world. It is a terrorist organization which must be confronted and extirpated if America is to win the war against Islamo-Fascism. Just like the United Nations, it is an organization that seeks to subvert every principle it purports to uphold.
I say the hell with them!
I think this country is on a downward slope…We are way too PC, give in to every lunatic that has a complaint. We are losing our soul for the sake of appeasing.
I have noticed that in recent interviews with CAIR, it has not been Ibrahim Hooper, but (I don’t know his name)the chief council (lawyer)who has been speaking for CAIR.
Notice how they seem to have their attorney field the questions now.

CAIR IS terrorism…it is also a close match to liberalism…and the radical left-wing of the demoRAT party. Supported by the ACLU…another terrorist organization.
